TAKIN’ IT TO THE STREETS”

“Takin’ It To The Streets” is a song by the Doobie
Brothers which was born in revolution. There is
currently a “revolution” going in the Body Of Christ
with the desire to take the power of God to the
marketplace. So, this became our theme song for the
weekend.

The early prophesy about Toronto was that the first
wave of God’s Spirit was about renewing the church,
but the second wave was “power to the streets.” That’s
what we were about this past weekend in San Diego as
we married healing with marketplace evangelism. We
were with our former pastor, Gary Goodell, who has
established Third Day Churches there. It’s all about
looking at church with different eyes, and one of the
ways they know to do church now is to reach out to the
community.

They have been involved in an outreach to a gay coffee
house, ministering to the poor with another church
downtown, joining with the SD Healing Rooms, and other
expressions of God’s love. And, they wanted to go
further in the healing anointing to take the healing
power of Jesus to the marketplace. So, meeting
Thursday night, Friday night, Saturday morning and
early afternoon, we were preparing to send the people
from several different churches represented, out to
the marketplace with the mission to have an “encounter
of the God kind.”

A BIBLICAL FOUNDATION FOR HEALING–IT WORKS!

Thursday night we laid a biblical foundation for
healing and then taught on the model for healling.
Bonnie was our demonstrator prayee and she came with a
painful shoulder that had been injured several years
ago and had limited mobility. God showed me a picture
of oil running down and thru muscles, ligaments, and
tendons to lubricate the arm. I gently moved her arm
to “prime the pump”.  All the pain had left and she
had full use of the arm back. What a great start to
the weekend.

Then when we broke into groups for them to practice
what they had learned, someone prayed for Karen’s
severe headache pain. She’s a teacher and had bumped
her forehead on the playground equipment that day,
even thinking she might have a concussion. But all the
pain left when her prayer partner prayed.

HEALING MANIFESTS OVERNIGHT

Friday saw us reinforcing the teaching on the model
for healing again, along with teaching on words of
knowledge. They were really starting to catch the
anointing as Barbara prayed for Deanna’s sciatic nerve
pain in her hip and down her leg, and it completely
left. At the end of the evening, Carol prayed for
Diane, who almost didn’t come because of severe neck
pain, and then almost didn’t stay once she was there.
She received some releif, but it was completed
overnight as she awoke Saturday pain free. Good lesson
there. Too often we assume nothing happened if we
aren’t instantly and completely healed. But sometimes
it just takes a little time for the healing to
manifest, but God is doing something every time we
pray.

SHARING THE “SPOILS OF WAR”

Saturday, we taught more on healing and also on
overcomeing the things that bring up fear in us and
keep us from asking someone in public if we could pray
for them. Then we sent them out. The mission was to
have a “God encounter.” To bless someone. To pray for
someone’s healing. Just sharing the love, mercy, and
healing touch of Jesus to the world around us instead
of waiting for someone to come to church so we could
pray.

Saturday night we gathered back to share the “spoils
of war,” the stories of what happened. We had twelve
of the people come up and share what it was like to
minister out in the marketplace and what happened.
Several people felt the love of Jesus as the prayer
warriors prayed for them, a couple got healed, and
several indicated how blessed they were that someone
took the time to pray for them. And a couple of people
said they didn’t want prayer. We had emphasied that it
wasn’t about how many got healed or how dramatic the
healing was–it was about being Jesus out in the
marketplace, about stepping out of our comfort zones
to see the miraculous.

The people who attended the school did exactly that.
Almost to a person they said it had been a challenge
to them to go thru the school knowing that they were
going to have the opportunity to go into the
marketplace. And no one said they wouldn’t do it
again! The other point that stuck out to me was that
while there were a few people who refused prayer, no
prayer warrior died, they weren’t embarrassed, and
they didn’t quit!! I think George Bush Sr. had it
right several years ago because he was actually
speaking of a Jesus principle. We really are to be
“points of light” everywhere we go, 24/7, armed and
dangerous with the love of Jesus backed up by signs
and wonders. What a concept.

ACTIVATING THE CONGREGATION

We really enjoyed this weekend as we got to see some
old friends, but also because we got to marry this
vision of teaching on healing with how to take the
power of God to the marketplace. Many churches have
been in renewal, but if you would like to know more
about how to activate your congregation thru this kind
of “Healing School To The Streets,” please contact us
at dewnamis@sbcglobal.net. Next weekend we will be
attending Randy Clark’s conference in Harrisburg, PA.
We’ll report later.
Blessings.
